We research in the field of aerodynamics and fluid mechanics, with emphasis on rotorcrafts. Located on the ground floor of the Guggenheim Building, we operate the historic John Harper low-speed wind tunnel, which with test section size of 7′ x 9′ is one of the largest wind tunnels in the US in academic setting. We have been a part of the Army/NASA Georgia Tech Center of Excellence in Rotary Wing Aircraft Technology since its inception in 1982. We focus on studying basic flow physics in complicated flow fields using techniques such as particle image velocimetry (PIV), hot wire anemometry, laser flow visualization etc.
