Abstract: The Fuller lab uses the development of Drosophila male germ cells as a model system to investigate how adult stem cells maintain and repair tissues throughout life. We seek to understand how signals from the local microenvironment combine with intrinsic factors to specify the stem cell state and direct daughter cells to differentiate. We are investigating how the developmental program acts to shut off precursor cell proliferation and turn on the specialized transcription and translational control programs that set up cell-type specific differentiation. Our aim is to understand the regulatory wiring diagram that specifies life style decisions from start to finish in an adult stem cell lineage.
