Withdrawal

Individual Course Drop

The Georgia Institute of Technology now has the same deadline for individual course drops and for complete withdrawals from school. See the Academic Calendar > for the term for dates.

All holds must be removed before a student can drop a course or withdraw from school.

There is no refund for dropped courses. A student must completely withdraw from school, by the deadline, in order to qualify for a refund.

Students who are full time (at least 12 hours) and withdraw from a course(s) which takes them below 12 hours, will no longer be considered full time. Ex: a student is registered for 12 hours and withdraws from one 3 hour course, that student is no longer considered full time.

If there is an alleged academic integrity violation pending, the student may not drop the class. The status of the alleged violation is defined as “pending” when an incident has been submitted to the office of student integrity and has generated an electronic “suspected academic misconduct” notice that has been sent to the student. If the student is found responsible for any prohibited academic conduct, he/she will not be allowed to drop the class.

If the student is found responsible for any prohibited academic conduct in a class, he/she will also not be allowed to withdraw from the term.

All international students should consult with the Office of International Education for questions regarding satisfactory immigration status if considering a course withdrawal.

Enrollment Status Regulations

All individual core courses within the Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering curriculum cannot be dropped through OSCAR.  Due to the strict prerequisites enforced by the School, any student who wishes to drop a CHBE course must seek permission from an academic advisor or the associate chair of undergraduate studies.  Students should send an email to the advisor or associate chair that contains the following information:

  • Student’s Name
  • GT ID#
  • Subject, Course number, and CRN
  • The reason the student wishes to drop the course and when the student plans to retake the course.

It is recommended that a student allow 24 hours for processing any withdrawal request, so students must be aware of all deadlines for individual course drops.

Withdrawal from School

The Georgia Institute of Technology has one deadline for individual course drops and a different deadline for complete withdrawals from school. See the Academic Calendar for the term for dates.

All holds must be removed before a student can drop a course or withdraw from school

The amount of your refund will be based upon the date you changed the status of your courses to “withdraw from school”. See “bursar’s office policies and procedures” in the oscar or view information at www.bursar.gatech.edu for refund policy.

With the exception of part-time (6 hours or less) graduate students, students who withdraw from school must submit a “petition to the faculty” to return to school the next term.
