Transfer Credit for Online Courses

Currently, on-line versions of all Lab Science courses, International Affairs, Psychology, Economics and courses equivalent to HIST 2111 and HIST 2112 are not eligible for transfer credit consideration. Courses will appear in the equivalency table after they have been evaluated. Please check this table to see if your courses have been evaluated. If you see “Approp Dept Must Evaluate” it will be your responsibility to have the course(s) evaluated by the appropriate department. In order to assure a successful transition to Georgia Tech, you will need to follow several important steps:

  1. If you are missing classes from your initial transfer credit evaluation, please first verify receipt of all official transcripts online in BuzzPort. If receipt of official transcripts has been confirmed and courses are missing, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admission.
  2. If any courses on your evaluation are listed as “Approp Department Must Evaluate,” you will need to “Apply For Transfer Credit” and forward the information to the appropriate department(s). It is your responsibility to have your transfer work evaluated prior to registration for the term in which you are enrolling. Your courses for evaluation may be pre-requisites for Georgia Tech courses. Failure to have coursework evaluated in a timely manner may result in registration restrictions due to your lack of pre-requisites.
  3. If you are a Newly Admitted student and are currently enrolled in classes at another School, please have your institution forward a final Official transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admission after all grades are posted. If you need transfer credit processed when you attend FASET advising, please bring an Unopened OFFICIAL transcript to the Registrar table. If you will need to request Permits for Registration from the Departments because you are currently enrolled in classes, you may bring a copy of your current schedule. Additional information about advising and registration can be found at the FASET web site.
  4. Courses transferred by the Institute are subject to approval by your major.

If you have any questions about this information, please contact the Office of the Registrar at 404-894-4150 or comments@registrar.gatech.edu. Our office is located in the Administration Building (Tech Tower) Room 104.

Transient Study

Georgia Tech students who wish to attend another school for a term must apply for admission to the school they wish to attend, by their deadline. The enrollment decision is made by the other school, not Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech students are responsible for verifying that courses taken elsewhere will transfer back to Georgia Tech by reviewing transfer course information on the Transfer Equivalency Catalog. For further information regarding transfer credit, refer to the Transfer Credit Information page.

Please note that courses in this equivalency table are presumed to be delivered in the traditional way. Currently, on-line versions of all Lab Science courses, International Affairs, Psychology, Economics and courses equivalent to HIST 2111 and HIST 2112 are not eligible for transfer credit consideration. In most cases mathematics are not eligible for consideration unless sufficient documentation is provided to show the course exams are proctored. If you are interested in taking the on-line versions of mathematics courses that meet this requirement, or have questions regarding this policy, please contact the Registrar’s Office for more information.

Please note that Georgia Tech students cannot be enrolled in Georgia Tech and another institution during the same term with the following exceptions:

  1. Students may concurrently enroll at Georgia Tech and another Institution during the Summer Term.
  2. Students participating in the cross-registration program.
  3. Students who have the permission of the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee or Graduate Committee to be concurrently enrolled in either Fall or Spring terms.
  4. Students who are on a co-op work assignment, but are taking no other courses at Georgia Tech.

Georgia Tech students who have a transient form from another institution should submit the form to the Georgia Tech Registrar’s Office for processing.  Students who do not have a transient form, but need to have a transient letter sent to another school, can complete and sign a Georgia Tech request form. Please allow at least one week for processing.

The School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering recommends that you discuss all plans for course work to be taken elsewhere with your academic advisor in advance.

Thirty-Six Hour Rule

An undergraduate student who is within 36 hours (residency rule) of graduation from Georgia Tech cannot take courses elsewhere and apply the credit toward his/her degree without prior approval. To obtain permission, the student must successfully petition the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee. Courses taken via cross-registration are considered resident credit and may be taken during the last 36 hours without Undergraduate Curriculum Committee approval.  Courses taken through approved study abroad programs sponsored through Georgia Tech are allowed to transfer; any questions about this should be addressed to the registrar’s office.
