Graduation

Online Application for Graduation

Students are expected to apply to graduate the semester before they wish to graduate. Georgia Tech now employs the Online Application for Graduation (OAG) for all its students – both undergraduate and graduate, and students can login to OSCAR to submit their application. Restrictions do apply, and students are advised to read the following information carefully before applying.

OAG “Windows”

The OAG is only open during set times for each semester’s graduation, and each semester will have two separate windows – one for new applicants, and one for reapplicants.  New applicants are defined as students who have never applied for that specific degree before (note: they may have applied for other degrees previously), and reapplicants are defined as students who are reapplying for the same degree again.  If a new applicant does not satisfy all their degree requirements, then they will be a reapplicant for the next semester.

Tentative dates for each semester’s OAG window are as follows:

Fall Graduation:

  • New Window: May 22 – June 15 (Applications can still be submitted from June 15-30, but will incur a $50 late application fee)
  • Reapplication Window: August 1 – September 15

Spring Graduation

  • New Window: September 17 – October 15 (Applications can still be submitted from October 16-31, but will incur a $50 late application fee)
  • Reapplication Window: December 1 – January 15

Summer Graduation

  • New Window: January 17 – February 15 (Applications can still be submitted from February 16-28, but will incur a $50 late application fee)
  • Reapplication Window: May 1 – May 20

NOTE: Masters students must ALSO submit a Program of Study to the Office of the Registrar by the last day of the window.

Degree Certification

Degree Certification (DC) conducts three audits on degree candidates each semester.  A first audit will be completed prior to the close of Phase II registration.  A second audit will be conducted immediately following Phase II registration.

Following the second audit, any students with deficiencies that cannot be remedied by final grades, will automatically be inactivated, and forced to reapply for the next semester.  Students are encouraged to follow their graduation status and work with their advisors in remedying any deficiencies.

Students who are still eligible after the Inactivation Date, will proceed on to a third and final audit the Tuesday following Commencement.  Participation in Commencement does NOT equate into the awarding of degrees.  If a student passes through the third audit, their degree will officially be awarded on the Thursday following

Graduation Status

All OAG students can check their graduation status in DegreeWorks, under the section entitled Student View.  For more information on DegreeWorks, please see www.degreeworks.gatech.edu.

Minimum grade requirements (ADDED 12/4/14)

The School of CHBE requires students to complete all core CHBE classes with a C or higher to graduate.  However, the school will grant an exception and allow a student to graduate with a maximum of one outstanding “D” grade in a required chemical engineering course if that class is not offered in the student’s final semester or if the class is not a prerequisite for another class. If more than one “D” is accumulated, the student is responsible for retaking the courses for a “C” or better.  Any “D” grade must be repeated before moving to the next level.  These courses include:  ChBE 2100, 2120, 2130, 3130, 3200, 3210, 3225, 4200 or 4210, 4300, 4310 (for Biotech students), 4400, 4515, and for catalog years 2010 and older, 4505 or 4525; for catalog years 2011 and newer, 4510 and 4520 or 4530.
